Hello everyone! In this post, NepKoder is going to show how to install Linux distribution operating system on android smartphone without rooting device. To install Linux distribution on your android smartphone, you must need an ARM supported distribution alone with root permission. As we know that rooting the android phone will break the warranty. So, with this article I will explain to you how to install Linux operating system on your android device without rooting.
To access OS you must have Linux command prompt on your android phone that provides some right process for system. With GNURoot, we don’t need any rooting on android smartphone and so, basically it will skip the root permission.
Remember that: Installing a Linux distro on your android device is not like the complete Linux OS version, but you will have all the required and necessary tools and functions of Linux shell. You can find much more tools that you used in Linux distribution.
Steps To Install Linux Distro OS on Android Device without Rooting
Step 1: Firstly, Install GNURoot available at Google Store. It is free to use and helps to place fake Linux sys root file on your android system.
Step 2: Open GNURoot. This application offer different ARM based Linux distro such as, Debian, Fedora, Gentoo.
Step 3: Choose any one distro and tap on “Create New Roots” that it will download the required files; data for your android and will takes few minutes.
Step 4: After download complete. You will see Linux distros, select that and tick on the “Launch as Fake Root” to get the apt-get and other root commands.
Step5: Again tap on “Launch Rootfs” to start installing every data and use Linux on your android device.
Step 6: Done! Now, you can start Linux OS using your android smartphone.
- You can install any packages and applications from Linux distro using package manager by apt-get on your android mobile.
- You can also create another terminal window just tap ‘+’ button at the top.
- You can switch the windows using drop down menu from top left corner.

I already mentioned about distros(debian, gentoo etc) available on GNURoot. You can access them using the command and you need GUI, for this, you need to implement GNURoot WheezyX distro. Using this method, it will launch VNC server, to see the GUI you need to download VNC Viewer from Google Play Store. Once you launch the WheezyX Distro in the different windows you need to open VNC viewer app and from there enter “localhost:1” as address and “password” as the password.
After that, a new terminal for WheezyX will launch as a virtual desktop and now, you can navigate things using virtual mouse and keyboard icon,
